Professional Degree Programs in Medical Geology at NSUK

We are excited to share the news about the approval and establishment of professional degree programs in Medical Geology at Nasarawa State University (NSUK), Keffi, Nigeria. The NSUK Academic Senate unanimously approved the creation of these new academic programs offered by the NSUK Jose A. Centeno International Medical Geology Research Centre. The programs include:

  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Medical Geology
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Medical Geology
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Geology

These programs aim to provide advanced education and training in environmental health and medical geology, addressing both local and global challenges.

The center also facilitates on-site and online capacity-building initiatives and tailored curriculum development to address regional priorities.

Congratulations to Professor Nghargbu K’TSO and colleagues from NSUK for achieving this milestone.

International Virtual Student Conference

The International Student Conference on Medical Geology and Environmental Health (ISCMGEH) has served as a platform for undergraduate and postgraduate students to showcase their research on environmental geochemistry, health, and medical geology.

  • 2021: 1st ISCMGEH – Latin America Edition.
  • 2022: 2nd ISCMGEH – Africa Edition.
  • 2024: 3rd ISCMGEH – European Edition.

This online conference series explores the impacts of environmental factors, both natural and anthropogenic, on human, animal, and plant health. Each edition receives institutional support from international scientific and governmental organizations. The upcoming 2026 edition will focus on India.

Webinars on Medical Geology and Pandemics

In collaboration with the International Medical Geology Association (IMGA), the IEHSC has developed a series of webinars to explore the critical role of medical geology in pandemic response, with a particular focus on lessons learned from COVID-19. These webinars were designed to promote dialogue on how geological factors influence public health during global health crises.
